Uzbekistan participated in the IAEA SMR School in Bangkok in July 2025 and is evaluating both Russian and Western SMR technologies. The country has a signed agreement with Rosatom for a large nuclear plant but is also engaging with US developers following diplomatic realignment. Uzbekistan's rapidly growing economy and energy demand make nuclear power strategically important. The country has uranium mining resources adding further strategic interest.
