TerraPower's Natrium sodium-cooled fast reactor project at Kemmerer, Wyoming reached historic milestones in the year following President Trump's executive orders, according to the DOE's one-year nuclear renaissance progress report published May 2026. The Natrium project is co-funded by the DOE Advanced Reactor Demonstration Programme with up to $2 billion in federal cost-share. Construction began at the site of PacifiCorp's retiring Naughton coal plant in June 2024. A molten salt energy storage system paired with the reactor enables flexible output between 345 MWe and 500 MWe. Wyoming construction and operating permits were approved in January 2025.
