American Forgemasters Company received $2,900,000 from DOE on May 14, 2026 to procure a new furnace for its facility in New Castle, Pennsylvania to facilitate domestic production of large component forgings for Gen III+ SMR deployments. Large-component forgings — including reactor pressure vessel flanges, nozzles, and heads — are among the most critical and supply-constrained components in SMR construction. American Forgemasters provides essential domestic heavy forging capability for nuclear applications, reducing dependence on overseas forgers in Japan and Korea.
