Constellation SMR Development LLC received a $17.26 million DOE grant announced May 14, 2026 to pursue an NRC-approved Early Site Permit for a New York location to support future deployment of Gen III+ SMRs. Constellation operates the largest nuclear fleet in the United States including Nine Mile Point in upstate New York. The Early Site Permit evaluates site suitability independent of reactor technology selection — a critical early step that can be completed years before reactor technology is finalised.
