Norwegian energy developer Ocean-Power and Danish nuclear technology firm Copenhagen Atomics signed an MOU in September 2025 to jointly study the potential for using Copenhagen Atomics' compact thorium-based molten salt reactors to generate power in Norway and Denmark. Copenhagen Atomics is developing a compact, factory-built thorium MSR targeting sub-$1 billion capital cost. This represents Scandinavia's first private SMR cooperation agreement and reflects growing Nordic interest in nuclear energy driven by energy security concerns and the Iran conflict's LNG supply disruption.
