Notes

The Czech government selected KHNP as preferred bidder in July 2024 for new nuclear units at Dukovany, approximately 200 kilometres southeast of Prague. Project company Elektrárna Dukovany II signed a contract with KHNP on June 4, 2025 for two APR-1000 reactors (European approved design) valued at $18.6 billion. Construction is expected to begin in 2029, with trial operations targeted for 2036. The contract covers up to four units — two additional APR-1000 units are planned for Temelin. Westinghouse is challenging the contract award as part of an ongoing intellectual property dispute with KHNP regarding proprietary reactor technology. The Czech Republic currently gets approximately one-third of its electricity from the four VVER-440 units at Dukovany (operating since 1985-1987).
