The Defense Innovation Unit, US Department of the Army, and US Air Force launched the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations programme in 2024, selecting eight eligible vendors in April 2025: Antares Nuclear, BWXT Advanced Technologies, General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems, Kairos Power, Oklo, Radiant Industries, Westinghouse Government Services, and X-energy. The programme enables military installations to power themselves independently from civilian grids — a critical national security objective.
