Kenya hosted the inaugural IAEA SMR School in May 2025, with 28 participants from six African nations. Kenya's NuPEA Acting CEO emphasised SMRs' role in clean energy access and industrial growth. Kenya has existing geothermal expertise and a strong renewable base but sees nuclear as necessary for baseload reliability. KEPCO signed a nuclear cooperation agreement with Kenya's nuclear board in 2016. Kenya is progressing through the IAEA Milestones Approach.
