On June 15, 2026, Russia and Laos signed a framework intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy. The agreement enables the parties to begin considering a project for the construction of a Russian-designed nuclear power plant in Laos. As a first step, a preliminary feasibility study on the integration of nuclear power into Laos's energy system will be conducted. Rosatom possesses reference technologies for both floating and land-based small modular nuclear power plants. No specific site or reactor type has been selected yet.
