Finnish nuclear startup Steady Energy has developed the LDR-50, a 50 MWe PWR operating at low temperatures specifically for district heating, industrial steam production, and desalination. Selected as a European SMR Alliance CityHeat project. Finnish regulator STUK completed a preliminary safety concept assessment finding the design can meet safety requirements. Steady Energy plans to start building a pilot plant in Finland in 2026. Five European nuclear regulators are conducting a Joint Early Review of the LDR-50.
