Meta announced 20-year power purchase agreements with Vistra Corporation on January 9, 2026 covering 2,176 MW of electricity from Vistra's Perry plant (Ohio, 1,268 MW BWR, licensed to 2046 — initial licence renewal approved July 2025) and Davis-Besse plant (Ohio, licensed to 2037), plus 433 MW of incremental capacity from equipment uprates at Perry, Davis-Besse, and Beaver Valley (Pennsylvania, approximately 1,800 MW combined, licensed to 2036 and 2047). Total: 2,609 MW. The 433 MW uprates are the largest nuclear uprates ever backed by a corporate customer in the US. Meta purchases begin in late 2026, with the full 2,609 MW online by 2034. More than 15% of the contracted capacity is new capacity added to the PJM grid. The PPAs provide financial certainty for Vistra to pursue subsequent licence renewals for all three plants — extending each by an additional 20 years. As recently as 2020, Perry, Davis-Besse, and Beaver Valley were on a path to retirement under FirstEnergy ownership; Vistra acquired them in 2024 from Energy Harbor (FirstEnergy's successor).
