Microsoft signed a 20-year 837 MW PPA with Constellation Energy for power from Three Mile Island Unit 1 in Pennsylvania in September 2024 — the landmark deal that launched the nuclear renaissance narrative in the tech sector. The Crane Clean Energy Center will supply 100% of power to Microsoft to match its data centre energy use in Pennsylvania, Chicago, Virginia, and Ohio. The deal was the first large-scale nuclear PPA by a hyperscaler and triggered the wave of nuclear procurement by Amazon, Google, Meta, and others.
