Newcleo is pursuing a "justification for use" process with the UK's Office for Nuclear Regulation for its lead-cooled fast reactor design — a regulatory pathway enabling the ONR to evaluate novel reactor designs outside the traditional GDA process. Newcleo operates in the UK and is seeking nuclear regulatory approval in parallel with its French ASNR process. The UK justification process is designed to enable innovative reactor designs to establish a regulatory basis without the full length of the GDA process.
