The Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved subsequent license renewals (SLRs) for St. Lucie Units 1 and 2, extending the operating licences for the two pressurised water reactors by another 20 years. St. Lucie Unit 1 (839 MWe) entered commercial operation in 1976 and Unit 2 (849 MWe) in 1983, both on Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County, Florida. The SLR approval extends their operation to approximately 2036 (Unit 1) and 2043 (Unit 2). Operated by Florida Power & Light (NextEra subsidiary). The SLRs demonstrate the NRC's ability to process life extension applications for existing large reactors alongside new SMR licensing.
