NuScale and Polish mining giant KGHM Polska Miedź signed a contract in February 2022 to construct a VOYGR-12 SMR plant in Poland by 2029 — Poland's first nuclear energy project. An application for a decision-in-principle was submitted to the Polish government in April 2023. The 12-module plant would generate 924 MWe of carbon-free electricity, primarily for KGHM's energy-intensive copper and silver mining and smelting operations. Poland's coal phase-out ambitions make this a strategically vital project.
