France established a partnership with Italy's Edison (EDF subsidiary) and ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy, and Sustainable Development) to deploy Nuward SMRs in Italy. Italy has been exploring nuclear energy return following its 1987 phase-out. The Nuward-Edison-ENEA partnership leverages France's nuclear expertise and Italy's industrial base. Italy has 23 GW of electricity interconnection with France and shares the French nuclear fleet's electricity during peak periods.
