Radiant Nuclear plans to test its Kaleidos microreactor — a 1 MW portable, gas-cooled nuclear microreactor designed to replace diesel generators — at Idaho National Laboratory's DOME microreactor test facility in summer 2026. The trailer-sized Kaleidos unit is designed for military bases and remote, critical applications, with initial customer deployments scheduled to begin in 2028. Radiant was one of eight companies selected by the DoD Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations programme in April 2025. The NRC also accepted Radiant's 10 CFR Part 70 licence application for its R-50 microreactor production facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (May 2026). DOME at INL is the world's first dedicated microreactor test facility.
