Wisconsin-based Realta Fusion and Japan's Kyoto Fusioneering formed a strategic partnership in May 2026 for joint development and deployment of plasma heating systems for Realta's magnetic mirror fusion machines, mirror-based neutron sources for qualifying materials, and tritium blanket breeding systems. While primarily a fusion programme, the neutron source applications have direct relevance to SMR materials qualification and fuel testing. The partnership represents the growing intersection of fusion and fission technology development.
