Vattenfall shortlisted Rolls-Royce SMR for a project to deploy SMRs at the Ringhals nuclear power plant site in Sweden in the 2030s. Sweden reversed its nuclear phase-out policy and is actively pursuing new nuclear capacity. Ringhals already hosts operational large reactors making it an ideal site for SMR co-location with existing grid connections and regulatory familiarity. Sweden signed the 11-country EU nuclear declaration in 2024.
