Notes

On April 13, 2026, Rolls-Royce SMR and Great British Energy–Nuclear signed a landmark contract to begin site-specific design work at the decommissioned Wylfa nuclear plant in Anglesey, North Wales. The contract covers three 470 MWe units totalling 1.41 GW backed by £2.6 billion in Spending Review funding and £599 million from the UK National Wealth Fund. The project will create 8,000 jobs — 3,000 locally and 5,000 across the UK supply chain. Reactors are targeted to supply the equivalent of 3 million homes with electricity for over 60 years from the mid-2030s. A final investment decision is expected around 2029.
