The Doicești SMR project will replace 600 MW of former thermal power plant capacity with 462 MW of clean stable nuclear power — Romania's Minister of Energy Bogdan Ivan stated this directly at the FID announcement. The former coal plant infrastructure has been cleared from the site approximately 90 km northwest of Bucharest. Six NuScale 77 MWe modules will supply clean baseload power contributing to Romania's energy independence and positioning it as the first European nation with a commercial SMR deployment.
