Nuclearelectrica shareholders approved a Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Doicești NuScale VOYGR-6 project on February 12, 2026 — Europe's most advanced SMR deployment. The FID is conditional on a set of requirements. The project deploys six 77 MWe NuScale power modules at the former 600 MW Doicești coal plant site in Dâmbovița County, approximately 90 kilometres northwest of Bucharest. Between 2022 and 2025, RoPower cleared and decontaminated the former coal station, demolishing underground structures to 15 metres, removing approximately 600,000 tonnes of material, and refurbishing the 110/20-kV substation with six 110-kV grid connections. FEED 1 (late 2023) and FEED 2 (Fluor Corporation, main contractor; Samsung C&T supporting) are complete. By May 2026, RoPower must complete geotechnical investigations, advance licensing, finalise a pre-EPC contract, negotiate long-lead equipment, define supply chains, and prepare for the pre-EPC and EPC phases. Pre-EPC phase: approximately 15 months. Financing: EXIM Bank $98 million loan (2024) for pre-project services; DFC Letter of Interest for up to $1 billion; EXIM Bank Letter of Interest for up to $3 billion for project deployment. RoPower selected Studsvik's CMS5 (Core Management System 5) for core design in December 2025. Operational target: beginning of next decade.
