Lithuania signed an intergovernmental agreement with the United States for SMR collaboration. The Baltic state previously operated the Soviet-era Ignalina RBMK plant which was closed under EU accession terms. Lithuania sees SMRs as a strategic tool for energy independence from Russian infrastructure and is coordinating with Estonia and Latvia on Baltic region nuclear deployment.
