Gijang in Busan selected as site for South Korea's first innovative SMR demonstration plant on June 17, 2026. Part of 11th Basic Plan for 700 MW SMR capacity by 2038. i-SMR is a 170 MW PWR developed by KHNP and KAERI. Site chosen over Gyeongju with 87.11 points due to proximity to Gori nuclear complex infrastructure and experienced workforce.
