Alabama Power is the co-beneficiary alongside Georgia Power of the February 2026 $26.5 billion DOE Energy Dominance Financing loan package covering approximately 6 GW of nuclear uprate and life extension work. Alabama Power operates the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant in Houston County, Alabama — two Westinghouse AP1000 units totalling approximately 1,800 MW. The loan programme supports both uprates (adding capacity) and life extensions (extending operating licences), maximising the carbon-free baseload from existing nuclear assets.
