ReFirm programme proposing up to 1,400 MWe SMR capacity at Nykoping site with 2-4 reactors (600-1,400 MWe). Uses proven LWR technology. Acquired Karnfull Next for project development capabilities. First privately led gigawatt-scale SMR initiative in Sweden. First unit could be commissioned in second half of 2030s. The Nyköping site is Studsvik's own former nuclear research facility. The programme coincides with the Swedish government's introduction of new financing mechanisms to support new nuclear development, including SMRs.
