Santee Cooper's board approved a memorandum of understanding with Brookfield Asset Management on December 9, 2025 establishing a formal feasibility period for the sale and completion of the two partially built AP1000 units at V.C. Summer in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Construction began in March and November 2013 and was abandoned in July 2017 after Westinghouse's bankruptcy, with the project approximately 64% complete in EPC terms. The MOU provides $2.7 billion in cash to Santee Cooper if the parties reach a Final Investment Decision, plus a targeted 25% ownership share for Santee Cooper once commercial operation begins. Brookfield must determine initial feasibility and establish a target FID date by June 26, 2026. Brookfield subsequently selected The Nuclear Company to project-manage the completion — May 2026. Target capacity: two units approximately 1,117 MWe each.
