Vattenfall confirmed it is already looking at building an additional 1,000 MW of SMR capacity at the Ringhals site as a Phase 2 following the initial 1,500 MW Videberg Kraft project. The Phase 2 expansion would bring total new nuclear capacity at Ringhals to approximately 2,500 MW — potentially replacing all four of the reactors originally operated at the site, two of which were prematurely shut down under Sweden's former nuclear phase-out policy. The Phase 2 expansion is contingent on the Phase 1 achieving its technology selection and state aid approval milestones.
