Vattenfall shortlisted two SMR vendors — Rolls-Royce SMR being one — for deployment at its Ringhals nuclear site on Sweden's west coast. The programme targets the first half of the 2030s for initial operation. Sweden reversed its nuclear phase-out policy and has set a target of achieving a fossil-free economy by 2045. Ringhals already operates two large reactors making it the preferred site for co-location with existing infrastructure and grid connections.
