X-energy submitted a construction permit application to the NRC for the Cascade Advanced Energy Facility in Richland, Washington — the four-unit flagship Amazon deployment with Energy Northwest. The NRC review is expected to take 18 months, targeting construction start by 2026 and operations by 2030. The Cascade facility is the first of several Amazon-X-energy sites targeting at least 5 GW of new nuclear by 2039. X-energy's Xe-100 is a pebble-bed HTGR with each reactor generating 80 MWe and 200 MWth.
