X-energy signed a Letter of Intent with Talen Energy in March 2026 to deploy at least three four-unit Xe-100 power plants across Pennsylvania and the PJM Interconnection market — covering several US states from New Jersey to Illinois serving 65 million people. The PJM region faces severe power demand pressure from AI data centres and manufacturing. Talen Energy is one of the largest competitive power generators in the eastern United States with deep grid market expertise. Talen operates the Susquehanna nuclear plant and previously sold its adjacent data centre campus to Amazon for $650 million. Potential capacity could range from 960 MW up to 1,440 MW or more depending on final plant count.
