General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems is developing the Energy Multiplier Module (EM2) — a helium-cooled fast reactor designed to consume existing nuclear waste as fuel while producing 265 MWe. Selected as one of eight vendors for the US DoD Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations programme in April 2025. General Atomics brings decades of nuclear research reactor experience and defence technology expertise to advanced SMR development. The waste-burning capability addresses nuclear's most politically sensitive challenge.
