Bulgaria signed an intergovernmental agreement with the United States for SMR collaboration. Bulgaria is actively pursuing nuclear expansion having previously operated Soviet-era VVER reactors at Kozloduy. The country sees SMRs as a strategic tool for energy independence from Russian gas and is in discussions with multiple SMR developers.
