Notes

A proposed 4,800 MW nuclear station would mark Ontario's first large-scale nuclear construction in more than three decades — supplementing the four-unit 1,200 MW Darlington BWRX-300 SMR programme. Ontario Energy Minister Stephen Lecce confirmed communities across the province are petitioning for nuclear development. The proposed large station would likely use the proven CANDU or AP1000 technology and target Ontario's growing electricity demand from AI data centres, electrification, and industrial expansion. Site selection process is expected to begin in 2026.
