Notes

Orano's Project IKE uranium enrichment facility near Oak Ridge is supported by a $900 million Department of Energy award to expand domestic low-enriched uranium capacity — one of the largest DOE investments in domestic uranium fuel infrastructure. The facility uses gas centrifuge enrichment technology (the same technology used at Urenco's Eunice, New Mexico facility). Gas centrifuge consumes far less electricity than older gaseous diffusion technology. At 7.4 million SWU per year, Project IKE would produce enough enriched uranium to replace all Russian-origin enriched uranium currently used in US reactors and serve as the primary commercial-scale domestic enrichment hub.
