First concrete poured 5 February 2026 for Unit 5 foundation slab of 9000 tonnes and 43000 cubic metres of reinforced concrete. The project officially transitioned to nuclear power plant under construction status per IAEA standards. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev attended the ceremony. Construction is proceeding on schedule per Atomstroyexport VP Vitaly Polyanin as of May 8 2026. Work on Unit 5 reactor building foundation is ongoing, the working pit for Unit 6 is being prepared, and a construction and installation base is being built. Target grid connection is early 2030s. Total cost is 12.5 billion euros with 10 billion euros Russian state loan providing 80 percent financing.
