Construction officially launched September 2025. Foundation pit and concrete slab completed May 2025. First quarter 2026 update shows reinforcement steel installation completed for first underground floor with 350 tonnes of rebar. First concrete pour for 1.5 metre thick floor slab of 2400 cubic metres is imminent. The reactor will replace the ageing High Flux Reactor from 1960, supplying approximately 60 percent of Europes and 30 percent of worlds medical radioactive sources. Two billion euros in Dutch government investment was approved by the European Commission under state aid rules in July 2024.
