Memorandum of understanding signed April 2026 for three-phase roadmap. Phase one is a non-nuclear molten salt test facility and PILOT programme in Zeeland by 2027. Phase two is the Thorizon Pioneer nuclear demonstrator at Petten by 2028, a smaller non-commercial version to validate the reactor core. Phase three is the first commercial 100 MWe Thorizon One unit in Zeeland by 2034. Uses long-lived elements from reprocessed used nuclear fuel and thorium. Core uses replaceable cartridges every 5 to 10 years to overcome corrosion and fuel handling obstacles.
