Notes

The Philippines has re-embraced nuclear energy under President Marcos — with the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) advancing feasibility studies for SMR deployment. The Philippines has discussed SMR partnerships with multiple developers and has expressed interest in the AP300. The country faces severe electricity reliability challenges and the highest electricity prices in Southeast Asia. The Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, mothballed since 1986, has been evaluated for potential restart. SMR deployment targeting the 2030s represents a transformational energy security option for the Philippine archipelago.
