Rwanda Atomic Energy Board and Rosatom signed an agreement at the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow to build a small modular reactor and a Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology; Rwanda's ambassador to Russia announced it on 31 October 2026 and said construction would soon commence. The reactor type, capacity, site and contract value have not been announced. It follows a June 2026 RAEB-Rosatom roadmap on SMRs. Rwanda plans its first 110 MW of nuclear power between 2030 and 2033 and also has agreements with other partners, including Holtec, NANO Nuclear and Dual Fluid.
