Notes

Tata Power is advancing SMR plans as of May 12, 2026, discussing technical and regulatory details with NPCIL and scouting potential sites in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Odisha for two 220 MWe SMR units. India's SHANTI Bill (Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India) has created a new legal framework allowing private sector involvement and up to 49% FDI in nuclear joint ventures — directly enabling Tata Power's entry. Holtec International has also expressed interest in the Indian market following the SHANTI Bill.
