CSMC develops mission-critical nuclear technologies at the intersection of energy, resources, and sovereignty, spanning Arctic power, national defence, research infrastructure, and space exploration. Its reactor programme was launched in September 2026 as three distinct platforms — POLAR-1, ORCA-1, and JAY-1 — retiring the company's earlier, unified "LEUNR" (Low Enriched Uranium Nuclear Reactor) concept in favour of an application-specific strategy. POLAR-1 targets first criticality by 2028 with fleet-scale deployment from 2030. The company has secured government backing through FedDev Ontario, NGen's Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program, the Department of National Defence's IDEaS programme, Emissions Reduction Alberta, and the Canadian Space Agency.
