Four European nuclear technology organisations launched the Eagles Consortium in June 2025 to develop and commercialise the EAGLES-300 lead-cooled SMR, aiming for a first demonstration by 2035. Belgian, Italian, and Romanian nuclear regulators launched a pre-licensing assessment in September 2024. The EAGLES-300 is a commercial-scale evolution of the ALFRED demonstrator and represents Europe's most advanced lead-cooled fast reactor programme.
