Tihange 3 was taken offline 5 April 2025 for long term operation overhaul. Restarted 10 July 2025 after Belgian Federal Agency for Nuclear Control and Bel V determination that it met conditions for safe restart. Action plan approved with remaining measures by September 2028. Part of 10 year life extension to 2035. The new Belgian government wants extension to 2045. European Commission approved state aid in February 2025. 15 billion euros in waste liability transferred from Engie to Belgian state.
