Gijang in Busan selected by KHNP to host a new small modular reactor with 700 MW capacity by 2038 under South Korea's 11th Basic Plan. The i-SMR (Innovative Small Modular Reactor) is a 170 MWe integrated pressurised water reactor being developed by KHNP and KAERI. Special Act on SMR Promotion passed in February 2026 with KRW1200 billion investment planned by 2030.
