Notes

Indonesia has formally embraced nuclear energy as part of its 2025 energy strategy — beginning feasibility studies and engaging multiple SMR developers including Westinghouse, Holtec, and Korean developers. Indonesia has the fourth-largest population in the world and one of the fastest-growing electricity demands in Southeast Asia. The government is evaluating SMR sites in Kalimantan for potential deployment by the mid-2030s. Indonesia's coal-heavy power sector makes nuclear a strategic decarbonisation option, particularly as Southeast Asian nations face growing international pressure on coal power.
