TEPCO has delayed the restart of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Unit 7 (1,356 MWe ABWR) until 2029-2030, focusing all resources on Unit 6 while managing the Fukushima Daiichi cleanup. Units 6 and 7 are the two ABWR units that began commercial operation in 1996 and 1997 and received NRA restart permission in December 2017. TEPCO is considering decommissioning older units 1 and 2 of the seven-unit plant. KK-7 restart would add another 1,356 MWe to Japan's grid and displace additional LNG imports from the world's largest nuclear power plant site.
