TEPCO is Japan's largest electric utility and operator of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station — the world's largest nuclear plant by installed capacity. TEPCO restarted Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Unit 6 (1,356 MWe ABWR) on February 9, 2026 — its first reactor restart since all seven Kashiwazaki-Kariwa units and its Fukushima Daiichi units were shut down following the March 2011 earthquake. KK-6's commercial operation began March 18, 2026, producing approximately 9,500 GWh annually and displacing approximately 1.3 million tonnes of LNG. KK Unit 7 restart is delayed to 2029-2030; units 1 and 2 may be decommissioned.
