Thorizon is developing the Thorizon One molten salt reactor using a unique segmented core design intended to simplify waste management. Selected as a European SMR Alliance project. Dutch and French nuclear regulators agreed to conduct a joint preparatory review — a first for a molten salt reactor in Europe. Pre-licence applications in both the Netherlands and France are expected simultaneously. The design targets commercial operation by the mid-2030s.
