About

Armenergo is Armenia's state energy holding company overseeing the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant — a VVER-440 reactor (416 MWe after upgrade) that provides approximately 40% of Armenia's electricity. Metsamor was extended to 2026 via a 2021 maintenance outage and is pursuing further extension to 2036. Following the February 10, 2026 civil nuclear cooperation agreement with the US (VP JD Vance and PM Pashinyan), a government company established in 2025 is evaluating new nuclear construction proposals from technology vendors, with a development plan goal by mid-2026.
